How A Park Or Playground Can Help Your Children Grow

Taking your children to a park or playground is a great way to get them out of the house and exercising.  It is becoming more common for kids to stay indoors, watching movies or playing on the computer.  This is creating children who have no social or emotional skills.  A playground can be beneficial in building physical strength as well as social and cognitive abilities.  It can improve more than just their physical fitness.

First, a playground or park allows children to get outside, breathe fresh air, and work on their physical fitness.  Most community parks offer some type of gymnasium play set.  These play gyms are good for exercise and socializing.  Play sets provide your kids with exercise options from stairs, and rope swinging to monkey bars.  These options improve physical health, as well as cognitive and motor skill development.

If you are taking your children to a park with no commercial playground, consider setting up games to play so that they can still benefit from exercising outdoors. Some community playgrounds do not have play sets.  This will allow you to come up with unique games.  Use soccer balls or jump ropes and create games for your child and their friends.  Hide-and-go-seek and tag are also exciting games your kids can play that can help them get exercise.  This can be a great way for you to get involved and exercise yourself.

Even though this all seems like a good way for your kids to get out and exercise, there are some safety precautions that you will want to take.  Most likely your school playground is not supervised, so you will have to keep special watch on your children.  It is important that you watch your younger children when it comes to park injuries.  It is common for them to take a misstep and fall.  Play sets get a lot of people on them.  When they are over-crowded, they become dangerous.  You may want to think twice about allowing your children on a crowded play set.  You may want to consider keeping an emergency first-aid kit in your vehicle and understanding the basic steps for emergency first-aid.

It is crucial that you take an interest in your children’s physical fitness.  Force your children to step away from the TV and video games at least once a day.  Give them an outdoor schedule, and you will see how quickly they benefit from it.
